Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer—and for many, that means road trips, family visits, and long drives. But before you hit the highway, take a few minutes to make sure your vehicle is road trip ready. A few quick checks can save you from unexpected breakdowns and make your journey a whole lot smoother.

Here are the top 5 things to check before you pack the car and hit the road :

1. Tires & Tire Pressure

Start from the ground up. Check your tire tread depth, look for signs of uneven wear, and make sure your tires are properly inflated. Low tire pressure can affect handling and fuel efficiency, especially on longer drives. Don’t forget the spare!

2. Brakes

Long drives mean stop-and-go traffic, highway exits, and mountain descents. If your brakes are squeaking, grinding, or feel soft, don’t ignore it. Have a technician inspect your brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid for safety and performance.

3. Engine Oil

Before any long trip, check your oil level and its condition. If you’re close to your next oil change, don’t wait—get it done early. Consider adding a BG oil service for added protection on extended drives.

4. A/C & Cabin Comfort

Nobody wants a sweaty road trip. Make sure your A/C is blowing cold and strong. If it’s blowing warm, bring it in for a quick check—we’ll make sure refrigerant levels, the compressor, and all key components are good to go.

5. Battery & Belts

Warmer temps can strain an already weak battery. If yours is more than 3 years old, we recommend having it tested. We’ll also check your serpentine belt and hoses for cracks or wear that could cause trouble mid-trip.

Bonus Tip: Pack an Emergency Kit

Include jumper cables, a flashlight, water, snacks, and a first aid kit—because a little prep goes a long way on the road.
